EHS Today: Can you offer us a description of your presentation and how it relates to safety leadership?

Sizemore and Bellaman: See how STEP members achieve world-class safety. ABC will reveal the findings of its third annual Safety Performance Report, which covers the 2016 STEP data year and trend comparisons over the previous five years. Learn how implementation of specific leading indicators can significantly improve your safety program, as well as how to use the report to promote ABC members’ exceptional performance.

EHS Today: Why is the topic of your presentation of interest to you and why is it important to SLC attendees?

Sizemore and Bellaman: This report substantiates the correlation between leading indicator implementation and lagging indicator performance. Additionally, attendees will be able to takeaway key indicators to implement or determine the level of implementation in their organizations to help them achieve world class safety performance.

EHS Today: Please share an example of a personal or professional experience you’ve had related to safety leadership or the topic of your presentation.

Sizemore and Bellaman: I personally believe that the next great leaps in safety performance will not necessarily be a new type or form of PPE as much as it will be a leadership commitment to ensuring a safety culture that believes every incident is completely avoidable.

EHS Today: What do you think are some of the most pressing EHS and risk management issues facing corporate leaders and safety professionals in 2017 and beyond?

Sizemore and Bellaman:

  • Implementing Safety Management Systems
  • Developing Leading Indicators for your Construction Site
  • Best Practices / Management of Emerging Compliance Issues in Construction Today: Confined Spaces in Construction & Silica
  • Maintaining Employee Engagement in a Constantly Changing Construction Site
  • How to Engage Front Line Leaders

EHS Today: How will this session help attendees be a better resource for their employees and company?

Sizemore and Bellaman: At the conclusion of this session attendees will be equipped with the fundamental knowledge of why focusing on leading indicators is critical to world class safety performance.
