A construction worker was killed yesterday when he fell eight floors from a scaffolding at the Longworth House Office Building across the street from the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Capitol Police said Dennis Weins, 44, was a contract employee for the architect of the Capitol, doing roof replacement work.

The unidentified man was taken to D.C. General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Rep. Bill Thomas, R-Calif., chairman of the House Administration Committee, said he was asking the chairman of the Capitol Police Board for an immediate investigation into the death.

The Longworth building, one of three House buildings for lawmaker offices and committee and hearing rooms, is located across from the Capitol Building.
