A firefighter rappelled off the side of an office building yesterday in Southfield, Mich., to rescue a worker left dangling when one side of a scaffolding fell.

Two men were on the scaffolding at the Travelers Building when it partially collapsed.

Firefighters used the ladder truck to rescue one who was hanging onto a rope about four stories above the ground.

The other worker was several stories higher up, hanging onto the scaffolding itself with the help of a safety harness.

A rescuer rappelled down the side of the building and attached a second safety harness to the worker, and then both were lowered down the side of the building to safety.

The building is about 17 stories high.
