EPA Settles with Chemtron on Hazardous Waste Violations

EPA Region 5 reached an agreement with Chemtron Corp. for alleged hazardous waste violations at its Avon, Ohio, facility. The company will pay a $101,707 penalty.

The complaint was filed in September 2001, with EPA claiming the company violated Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) rules governing the monitoring and marking of equipment that detects pollutants and prevents them from leaking into the air. Under RCRA, passed by Congress in 1976, EPA regulates hazardous waste from production to final disposal.

Chemtron agreed to notify EPA when it achieves compliance with the requirements.

EPA Region 5 includes six Great Lakes states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
