National Safety Council Promises "Redress" for Attendees, Exhibitors of NSC

Oct. 6, 2004
The National Safety Council is trying to figure out how to compensate attendees, exhibitors and registrants for professional development seminars whose time at the National Safety Congress was cut short by the NSC's decision to close the congress early due to Hurricane Ivan.

"The once-in-a-lifetime series of hurricanes that struck the southeast this year had its effect on us," admitted NSC President Alan C. McMillan.

He pointed out that some registrants from Florida and other southeast states were forced to cancel their attendance at the NSC due to earlier storms and hurricanes. Others decided to play it safe and did not travel to New Orleans for NSC when they heard Ivan was heading for U.S. shores.

"I know that the threat of Ivan and the early closing of Congress and Expo created an exceptional set of circumstances," said McMillan. He added that in the past two weeks, the NSC has received numerous calls about the effects on attendees and exhibitors of the early closing of the NSC.

"The important thing you should know," said McMillan, "is that we intend to provide some form of redress to exhibitors, attendees and PDS registrants as consideration for the shortened Congress and Expo."

He said the NSC will announce specific resolutions for each group as they are established, a process that could take as long as 60 days.

Attendees or exhibitors who have questions can call the NSC at (800) 621-7619.
