The MEGAComfort oversole is useful in any temporary environment where there is risk of toe damage or where steel-toe protection is required. It is ideal for casual workers, management, clerical staff and visitors. The oversole’s steel toe cap meets or exceeds the impact and compression performance criteria of ASTM F2413-11 and is Prop 65-compliant. Its tread design provides slip resistance on typical walking surfaces. The oversole also is waterproof, crack-resistant and available in five different colors.
Lightweight Footwear Protection
KEEN Utility, a brand of KEEN Inc., is unveiling a collection of lighter, faster and more colorful safety footwear styles. Leading the charge is the Davenport, a medium-duty work boot with a lightweight design. The Davenport is 100 percent non-metallic by design, offering asymmetrical composite safety toes, which provide a roomier toe box for toes’ natural flexion, and nylon hardware.
Electrical-Compliant Work Boot
Lehigh’s steel-toe work boot is crafted with polyurethane outsole material to help take some of the stress and strain away from the wearer’s feet and body. The stock 5040 work boot comfort package features soft, tumbled upper leather to lessen the break-in time for the wearer. This type of work boot is made with insulating bottoms, providing secondary electrical hazard protection to those areas dealing with open circuits under dry conditions, but also can be worn in work areas requiring only basic protective-toe work boots.
Product Spotlight: Welding Helmet
The Speedglas welding helmet 9002NC from 3M is designed with everyday working conditions in mind. It offers a range of improvements including improved optics, built-in exhaust vents for reduction of lens fogging and a slim profile for welding work in tight spaces. The helmet’s suspension features a smooth ratchet for tightening – even while wearing gloves. Advanced auto-darkening optics adjust to your working conditions for a lighter, brighter and more detailed view of the weld puddle.
Product Spotlight: Ventilated Helmet
Petzl’s Vertex Vent helmet is made for optimized visibility in low-lit environments. With a six-point webbing suspension system, the helmet sits without painful pressure points. Side adjustment wheels make fitting easy. The Vertex is designed to allow users to outfit headlamps, visors, protection shields and hearing protection easily to their helmet. It has ventilation holes with sliding shutters to allow the ventilation to be adjusted as needed. The strong chinstrap (more than 50 daN) limits the risk of losing the helmet during a fall. Shock absorption is achieved through deformation of the outer shell.
Product Spotlight: Cooling Hat for Heat Stress
rgodyne’s Chill-Its 6686 dry evaporative cooling hat is a lightweight and low-maintenance solution to manage heat stress. The one-size-fits-all adjustable gray cap is easy to activate and re-activate. Users just fill the watertight cap with 3 oz. of fresh water and distribute it until the inner cooling membrane is saturated. Wearers can get up to three days of dry cooling relief that’s as much as 15 degrees below ambient air temperature, with a max cooling capacity of 59 degrees Fahrenheit (15 degrees Celsius). Durable and machine-washable, the cooling cap has an anti-microbial treatment to prohibit mold growth.
Real-Time Safety Software
A comprehensive safety software platform from Honeywell is designed to help customers keep their facilities and personnel safe, boost productivity and lower compliance and administrative costs. The Sotera platform supports connected worker offerings such as two-way communications, geo-location and automatic safety alerts to provide employers with real-time awareness of safety incidents and the ability to respond quickly if an employee is injured in a remote location. It also incorporates advanced cyber-security features to protect data.
Low-Power Gas Detector
The GasSecure GS01 is a wireless gas detector that combines single-beam, triple-wavelength infrared (IR) technology with extremely low power consumption, making it ideal for areas that are hard to reach with cabling. Dräger’s gas detector features an ultra-low power design and small, integrated battery pack enable the device to operate continually for up to two years, depending on environmental conditions. The device’s wireless communication is based on the open ISA100 wireless standard, which enables simplified integration with other commercially-available field wireless devices and control systems. The GasSecure GS01 also has received FM approval.
Wearable Activity Monitor
A new wearable communications device from MakuSafe captures everything from near-miss activity to quality assurance and LEAN reports. The armband is equipped with sensors to track environmental conditions around employees while they work and send data back to the MakuSmart platform. Safety and operational personnel can view the cloud dashboard to see the employee-generated and auto-generated reports relating to environment, safety and productivity. The wearable is equipped with a LED indicator, recording button, microphone and environmental sensors.
Dust Sampling Pump Range
Casella’s Apex2 personal dust sampling pump range ensures monitoring and analysis of dust exposure can be carried out safely and effectively. The range includes three separate models: the Apex2, Apex2 Plus and Apex2 Pro, to help protect workers from developing long-term latency health problems as the result of occupational exposures. Incorporating Bluetooth connectivity, workers can be monitored remotely. Employers can view the status of their dust sampling pump on a worker and start, stop or pause the tool from a smart device. The software provides real-time status updates and allows collected data to be emailed alongside photos and notes for added context.
IQuity intelligent anti-fog coating by Radians has anti-scratch and anti-smudge properties built into the lens for long-term wear and durability. Quity is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and is both EN166 K and N compliant. The protective polycarbonate lens provides impact resistance. IQuity anti-fog coating currently is available in three ANSI Z87.1 impact-resistant eyewear products: Dagger IQ, Rad-Sequel IQ and Optima IQ.
Single Gas Monitor
The Protégé SG from Scott Safety is a reusable, single-gas monitor that is interchangeable to detect 13 gases. With smart sensors, including both low-power IR and electrochemical options, the Protégé SG offers a reusable solution. The swappable sensors are equipped with smart sensor-board technology providing automatic recognition of sensor type and updating relevant information on the LCD display while downloading the required calibration parameters.
