There’s plenty that Raytheon can’t tell you about its manufacturing facility near downtown Indianapolis. But the defense contractor is more than willing to talk about the strategies that help create a safe and healthy environment for the 1,100 workers at the site.
The 1 million-square-foot facility is part of Raytheon’s Intelligence, Information and Services unit, which makes sophisticated software and electronic systems for military applications. The Indianapolis facility is a former U.S. Navy site that the city leases to Raytheon.
The heart of the site’s EHS program is a world-class employee-engagement system that empowers workers to make safety improvements and captures their ideas in a database shared by multiple Raytheon facilities.
Raytheon, a 2013 America’s Safest Companies selection, opened its doors to a small group of EHS managers who were in town for EHS Today’s Safety Leadership Conference. EHS Today Art Director Samantha Himes took these photos from the tour.
