Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson announced that Don Seaborg will be the new Energy Department site manager at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Kentucky.
Seaborg will be responsible for day-to-day direction and technical oversight of contract activities in support of the department's nuclear energy and environmental management programs.
He has been project manager of the department's Plutonium Finishing Plant in Richland, Wash., since 1998.
At that plant, he oversees the contractor for the plant's stabilization and deactivation project.
Seaborg was the department's facility representative at the plant from 1993 to 1997.
He has 21 years of experience in nuclear reactor and facility operations.
Prior to working at the DOE, Seaborg worked as a nuclear engineer for the U.S. Navy where he served as technical consultant on mixed waste issues for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Seaborg has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington.
