The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) has awarded its second round of grants since the foundations inception in 1998.
Six scholarships were granted this year -- up two from 1999 -- totaling 12,000.
The AAOHN Foundation''s academic study scholarships are for registered nurses enrolled full- or part-time in an undergraduate/graduate program with applications to occupational and environmental health nursing.
This year''s recipient of the AAOHN Foundation $3,000 scholarship was Deanna W. Wells, RN, BSN, who is currently enrolled in the Master of Public Health in Nursing program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Tonya B. Shropshire, RN, ASN, received the Alcoa Foundation Academic $1,500 scholarship. She is currently enrolled in the Master of Public Health in Environmental Health Sciences program at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, La.
Continuing education scholarships are awarded by the foundation to individuals employed in the field of occupational and environmental health nursing to attend and successfully complete continuing education activities.
Karen Libordi, RN, of Lewiston, N.Y., received the North Carolina Leaders $3,000 scholarship.
Two Edwards Medical Supply $1,500 scholarships were awarded this year to Christine Cavanaugh, RN, of Niagra Falls, N.Y., and Carol Cohan, RN, of Mineola, N.Y.
Tamara N. Green, BSN, of El Dorado, Kan., received the Alcoa Foundation $1,500 scholarship.
The AAOHN Foundation enables occupational and environmental health professionals to improve and protect worker health and safety through the funding of grants to support ongoing education, leadership development and research in the field.
The foundation is a subsidiary of AAOHN, a 12,000-member professional association dedicated to advancing and maximizing the health, safety and productivity of domestic and global workforces by providing education, research and practice resources for occupational and environmental health nurses.
