Dodge-Regupol, Standard Register Win Safety Excellence Awards

March 6, 2002
Two Pennsylvania companies and their employees are honored for their commitment to workplace safety and health.

Dodge-Regupol Inc., Lancaster, Pa., and its 133 employees have earned the Governor''s Award for Safety Excellence. PENNSAFE Director Thomas J. Ward Jr. presented the award to the company during a recent visit and facility tour.

"Dodge-Regupol has shown a very strong commitment to safety in the workplace," Ward said. "They reduced the number of lost-time injuries from nine in 1998, and went two-and-a-half years before having one lost-time injury in 2001."

Dodge-Regupol, a leading producer of recycled rubber products, is the 58th recipient of the Governor''s Award for Safety Excellence. It cleans, recycles and coverts scrap tires for the manufacture of a wide range of rubber products.

Ward also presented the Governor''s Award For Safety Excellence to Standard Register in York and its 278 employees.

"Standard Register has a world safety record in the manifold business forms industry," Ward said. "They have worked six years - over 3.6 million hours - without a lost-time injury."

Standard Register, the 57th recipient of the Governor''s Award for Safety Excellence, is a manufacturer of custom printing forms.

The Governor''s Award for Safety Excellence is a key element of the PENNSAFE - Pennsylvania Safety First - workplace safety program. According to Ward, participation in the PENNSAFE program has been overwhelming. Since the program began in 1996, the number of joint worker-management workplace safety committees has increased from 400 to more than 4,700 committees covering more than 652,000 employees.

"Joint labor and management efforts, such as we see at Dodge-Regupol and Standard Register, have taken workplace fatalities to historic lows," Ward said. "I''m proud to say that workplace injuries statewide have dropped 40 percent since 1995 - to the lowest point in nearly four decades."
