ASSE Has New Program for Executive Safety Management

July 2, 2002
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) will debut this fall an educational program titled the Executive Program in Safety Management.

The program is designed for experienced safety professionals to maximize their safety program performance as the role of safety management expands to meet the demands of today from corporate security and crisis management to environmental exposures.

The program seminars will be Nov. 20-23 in Las Vegas, Nev., and Jan. 27-Feb. 3 in Orlando, Fla.

The certificate from the Executive Program signifies advanced understanding of safety management from the ASSE Professional Academy and is certified by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training. To earn the certificate, individuals must take three executive program courses plus 2.6 additional continued education units electives.

The two-day seminar "Delivering a High-Performance Safety Management System" focuses on assessing the effectiveness of a program and how to gain recognition for it. "Reducing Losses from Occupational Health Risks and Environmental Exposures" is a two-day seminar exploring the areas outside of accident prevention for the safety professional ready to assume responsibility for the health and environmental challenges in their organization, such as air quality, ergonomics implementation and hazardous materials management. The three-day seminar "Managing the Business Aspect of a Safety Program" focuses on understanding all aspects of an organization's operations to effectively integrate a safety system into the company's business, from financial and insurance management to business communication and ethics.

To be eligible for the program, registrants must satisfy one of the following criteria: certified safety professional, certified hazardous materials manager, associate in risk management or certified industrial hygienist designation, completion of ASSE's certificate in safety management, professional member of ASSE, baccalaureate degree with five years' safety experience or professional engineer working in the safety, health or environmental field.

Lower fees are available for ASSE members and nonmembers registered before the pre-registration deadline. To register for these seminars, call ASSE Customer Service at (847) 699-2929 or register online at www.asse.org under Educational Opportunities.
