The Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health is responsible for encouraging the establishment and maintenance of effective safety initiatives in every federal agency and department and helping to develop new policies in the Federal sector.
Cannon began his law enforcement career in 1973 with the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department. He retired from that department after 22 years of service and moved to the Library of Congress Police in 1996. He is currently serving as a uniformed inspector with the United States Mint Police.
Cannon is the most recent of a number of F.O.P. leaders who have received such appointments. National President Steve Young was appointed to the Medal of Valor Board and the President's Homeland Security Advisory Council. National Legislative Committee Chairman William J. Nolan also serves on the Medal of Valor Board. National Sergeant-at-Arms Kenneth Rocks was appointed to the Federal Prison Industries Board of Directors, which he chairs, and Executive Director James O. Pasco Jr. was appointed to the Federal Salary Council.
