The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) joined with stakeholders from government, non-profit, business, labor, professional institutions and academia to sign the Workplace Health & Safety Partnership Declaration. The declaration commits its signers to create a culture of health and safety in the workplace, increase public understanding of the human and economic impact of poor workplace safety and health and publicly promote safety and health performance as important indicators of social responsibility.
A working group formed at the first Workplace Safety Summit in March 2001 produced the declaration. The 2001 Workplace Safety Summit was created to bring together more than 100 groups and individuals to begin to develop practical solutions and to create a catalyst for ongoing change. It is their continuing focus to provide enhanced public awareness of workplace safety issues and make the business case for safety while providing opinion leaders and others with clear and impartial information and to work towards practical solutions to the enormous toll of workplace accidents and injuries.
The Second Annual Workplace Safety Summit will be held on April 11 and 12 at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Occupational Hazards will attend.
