ASSE awarded Michael F. O'Toole, assistant professor at Purdue University Calumet, a grant to study the relationship between safety protocol and injury in the workplace.

The American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation (ASSE) recently awarded Michael F. O'Toole, assistant professor at Purdue University Calument, a grant to study the relationship between safety protocol and injury in the workplace.

An issue over frequent debate in the media as of late, O'Toole has designed a proposal with the goal of developing a safety perception survey as a predictive tool for future injury avoidance.

His study will also identify factors that suggest a high level of risk-control effectiveness, develop a measure of an effective and successful safety program, and identify general factors that influence employee perceptions of a company's safety efforts.

O'Toole's goal is to expand upon previous research and advance the knowledge that safety management practices have on causes of injury and methods of avoidance.

Those interested in donating funds to support research grants such as this may send contributions to ASSE foundation, Mary Goranson - Foundation Manager, 1800 E. Oakton St., Des Plaines, IL 60018.
