Rebuild Project Team Reaches Safety Milestone

Construction crews rebuilding a portion of the Kaiser Aluminum plant in Gramercy, La.,\r\nhave attained 500,000 safe work hours without an OSHA recordable injury.

For the construction crews rebuilding a portion of the Kaiser Aluminum plant in Gramercy, La., the heat has been on all summer.

The intensity of a fast-track, 24/7 schedule has been augmented by the extremely hot temperatures.

Despite the summer heat, the Fluor Daniel project management team has attained a record of 500,000 safe work hours without an OSHA recordable injury.

Flour Daniel is the engineering, procurement and construction unit of Fluor Corp., Aliso, Calif.

"A project like this has to run on tight timetables with clockwork precision," said Win Moore, Fluor Daniel''s vice president and project manager. "Our team was able to accomplish this feat while performing very precise and detailed coordination of operations on a daily basis."

The Gramercy rebuild milestone was achieved over a 13-week period beginning on May 22.

"Flour Daniel''s outstanding safety record was a key reason it was chosen for the project," said David Kjos, Kaiser Aluminum vice president and project director. "We''re especially gratified by this latest achievement."

Part of the Gramercy plant was shut down following an explosion on July 5, 1999 that injured 29 employees and destroyed the production area of the plant.
