AAOHN Launches New Ergonomics Web Site

June 17, 2003
The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) has launched a new Web site designed to aid occupational and environmental health professionals, as well as business professionals, access a number of free, online ergonomics resources.

"We're pleased to offer this new Web site," said AAOHN President Susan Randolph. "Musculoskeletal injuries are one of the top problems plaguing today's workforce, and ergonomic strategies to address these issues can be found at www.ergoresources.org. [It] is a one-stop shop for occupational and environmental health nurses and other professionals who manage workplace health and safety programs to find the most current information about ergonomics and worksite design suggestions."

The new Web site is the first initiative of AAOHN's new health and safety alliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). AAOHN plans to enhance the existing information with continued feedback from members and Web site visitors.

Injuries resulting from poor ergonomics known as work-related musculoskeletal disorders account for more than one-third of all on-the-job injuries, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The cost to U.S. employers to cover these injuries is estimated at as much as $65 billion in direct and indirect costs from workers' compensation fees, lost productivity, recruiting, absenteeism, litigation and even human error.
