Each year, nearly 6,000 people are killed at work, and an additional 50,000 workers die annually from occupational diseases, while million more are injured.
The theme of this year's Workers Memorial Day is "Good Jobs, Safe Jobs, Protect Workers Now." As part of the activities, the observance will call on the Bush administration to protect good jobs that pay decent wages and provide health benefits and pensions.
