The California Environmental Protection Agency awards Shaklee Corp. a "Certificate of Recognition" for the company's environmental and energy-conservation practices.

The California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) has awarded Shaklee Corp. a "Certificate of Recognition" for the company's environmental and energy-conservation practices.

The certificate, part of the 2001 Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Awards, recognizes Shaklee's "meritorious contributions to environmental protection and resource conservation in the State of California."

"We are pleased to receive this certificate," said Robert Schults, president and CEO of Shaklee. "Our company was founded on environmental principles, and we continuously strive to fulfill them. It is an honor to be recognized for our efforts."

Shaklee's environmental and energy conservation efforts have included the construction of new headquarters in Pleasanton, Calif., in 1999. The innovative, environmentally responsible campus helped earn the company the first U.S. "Climate Neutral" enterprise certification. Construction strategies included designs that maximize the use of daylight yet prevent over-absorption of heat to reduce heating and cooling needs, motion-activated lighting, and full use of recycled and environmentally safe materials.

The company's environmental focus has earned it other recent environmental awards and commendations, including the 2001 Edmund G. "Pat" Brown Award, 2001 Direct Selling Association "Vision for Tomorrow" Award, 2001 Pacific Gas & Electric's "Saving By Design" Energy Efficiency Integration Award, Earth Day 2000 New York Environmental Business Award, 2000 Business Environmental Network Award, and a commendation letter from former President Bill Clinton.
