Accuform Signs

Brad Montgomery, marketing director for Accuform Signs, completed Exhibitor magazine's Certified Trade Show Marketer accreditation program, the only university-affiliated certification program in the trade show and event marketing industry. Montgomery successfully completed the 28-course curriculum and was recognized at the awards ceremony during Exhibitor2008 in Las Vegas.

Accuform's John Murphy recently received his professional certificate of industrial distribution from Purdue University. “This is a major accomplishment and will benefit our company tremendously,” said CEO Wayne Johnson. “It is also noteworthy that John is the first person within a major industry organization to achieve such an honor.”

Quest Technologies

Quest Technologies Inc. recently introduced its “forever warranty” on instruments. When currently supported Quest instruments from U.S. customers are calibrated by Quest's accredited laboratory each year, the company will extend the original manufacturer's warranty for an additional year. This instrument warranty essentially lasts forever as long as the instrument is returned to Quest each year for its periodic calibration check and if components are available for any needed repairs.

Industrial Scientific

Pittsburgh-based Industrial Scientific Corp. announced changes to its corporate structure to support its recent growth. Kevin Miller was promoted to general manager of Americas sales and services; Garth Miller was promoted to the newly created position of vice president of customer operations; and Doug Velegol was appointed program manager.

In other Industrial Scientific news, the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) recently certified the company's MX6 iBrid multi-gas monitor as intrinsically safe for use in hazardous locations.

Best Glove

Georgia-based Best Glove Inc. recently unveiled its new Web site, http://www.bestglove.com. The site features ChemRest, the company's dedicated Web portal that helps users to select the most applicable, productive, chemical-resistant gloves for potentially hazardous applications. ChemRest contains easy-to-read chemical resistance data from over 9,000 conclusive tests and includes rankings of the most to least effective protection for specific chemicals. The site also offers a powerful search facility to enhance customer service.

Scott Health & Safety

Scott Health & Safety made 15 contributions totaling $87,500 to various organizations that provide assistance or education to groups or individuals in safety-related industries. Recipients include the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, FDNY Foundation, First Responder Institute, the National Volunteer Fire Council and the Foundation for Occupational Health & Safety, among others.

“We believe in the mission of these fine organizations and support their good work in the fire, first responder, law enforcement, and industrial safety communities and know that these contributions will be put to good use to promote their worthy efforts,” said Tom Korb, marketing manager.

Pelican Products

Don Jordan was recently named CFO of Pelican Products, a leader in the design and manufactur of advanced lighting systems. Jordan brings more than 20 years of financial management experience to the position, and will help drive domestic and international growth as the company launches new sales initiatives in the United States, Europe and Asia.

“Don's financial management has been exemplary as Pelican continues to grow by leaps and bounds,” said Lyndon Faulkner, president and CEO. “He is the right man to help guide our organization as we execute our explosive growth strategy with significant capital investments, international expansion and potential acquisitions.”

JLG Named Caterpillar Preferred Vendor

Pennsylvania-based JLG Industries Inc. was named a 2008 Caterpillar Inc. rental store preferred vendor based on a review of product features and benefits, product support capabilities, training and distribution capabilities and Cat dealer satisfaction survey performance.

“Our long-term partnership with Caterpillar provides JLG the opportunity to offer Cat Rental Stores worldwide with quality aerial equipment products and services,” said Craig Paylor, JLG president. “This selection mirrors JLG's vision to partner with world-class manufacturers.”

W.W. Grainger Inc.

W.W. Grainger Inc.'s Roanoke, Texas, distribution center achieved a safety milestone when its 250 employees logged 1 million continuous working hours with no lost-time accidents. The company implemented a multi-faceted approach to encourage a safer workplace: safety communication, several process improvement projects and a constant focus on awareness of potential dangers. “It takes hard work from everyone on the team to keep safety awareness and accident prevention top-of-mind,” said Dean Kellogg, the facility's director of distribution operations.

Occupational Hazards named Grainger one of America's Safest Companies in 2007.

Nilfisk CFM

Pennsylvania-based Nilfisk CFM, a leading industrial vacuum manufacturer, awarded district manager Tim Pelletier the distinguished “Ax” or 2007 Salesman of the Year. Pelletier consistently reaches his sales goal every year, but in 2007, he surpassed that goal in a bruised economy while also transitioning into a new territory.

Other members of the company's sales force and office staff also were honored with Awards of Excellence and include Robert Wheeler and Rob Millard, district managers; Rosalie Troilo, inquiry processor; and Rob Decker, application engineer.

NAEMT

The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) selected CentreLearn Solutions LLC to provide learning management support for its online education programs. In addition to providing access to the CentreLearn online catalog and NAEMT educational programs, this technology will enable online discussion groups, announcements and information distribution services for NAEMT committees and members.

“As a technology provider, CentreLearn has an unparalleled understanding of the needs of emergency responders, coupled with a strong service philosophy,” said Jerry Johnston, NAEMT president.

LaCrosse Footwear

LaCrosse Footwear announced that its Danner subsidiary received a delivery order as part of the Mountain Cold Weather Boot contract awarded by the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in 2006. Danner will supply the troops in Afghanistan with 5,730 pairs of these boots in the first half of 2008.

VPP STAR Flags

California-based Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne (PWR) and Hamilton Sundstrand Space, Land & Sea Rocketdyne (SLSR) were recently awarded Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) STAR Flags in recognition of safety and health programs that effectively prevent and control occupational hazards.

“We are proud to be recognized in the state as a leader in occupational safety and health, but we are most proud of the fact that we are maintaining the safest and healthiest work environment possible for our employees and our surrounding communities,” said PWR California Operations General Manager Steve Bouley. “That is our highest priority.”

Smurfit-Stone

Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. completed its safest year in company history in 2007 by achieving a 1.05 recordable case rate, trumping the company's previous best mark of 1.15 in 2006. Smurfit-Stone also reduced the number of days lost due to occupational injuries and illnesses by 48 percent in 2007.

“Smurfit-Stone has an incredible tradition of safety achievement,” said Steve Klinger, president and COO. “Thanks to our outstanding level of employee involvement, we have reduced occupational injuries and illnesses by nearly 90 percent since launching our Smurfit-Stone Accident-Free Environment (SAFE) process in 1995 and continue to demonstrate progress toward our primary goal of completely eliminating occupational injuries and illnesses.”

GreenWood, Hunt Refining Celebrate Safety

GreenWood Inc. recently participated in a first-ever safety celebration with customer Hunt Refining Co. in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to celebrate and recognize safety awareness and safe work practices. GreenWood has worked over 600 days without a recordable accident and attributes this to the “safety first” culture instilled in all levels of work performed. Hunt Vice President for Safety Bobby Freeman and Hunt Plant Manager Mike Slaughter joined 150 additional personnel at a steak dinner reception to recognize the contributions that make Hunt a safe work environment.
