EPA Approves Lead-Based Paint Training Program

It's little surprise that 18- to 34-year-olds are at the heart of a nationwide increase in illegal drug use, and the manufacturing industry traditionally draws heavily from this pool of job seekers.

EPA approved the first federal lead-based paint training program in the nation.

The Milwaukee Lead-Asbestos Information Center Inc. can give certified courses on lead hazard evaluation and control. "This action represents a significant milestone toward building partnerships with training organizations to manage and reduce lead hazards in our communities and to protect children's health," said Phyllis Reed, chief of EPA's Regional Pesticides and Toxics Branch.

The Milwaukee center is accredited to offer basic and refresher courses in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota.
