Burlington Chemical Co., Burlington, N.C. and its 149 employees were honored on Friday for reaching 1 million hours without a lost-time accident.
The North Carolina State Commissioner of Labor, Harry Payne delivered the Annual Safety Quality Award plaque to the company at a luncheon that celebrated the employees.
"Commitment to safety by employees and management is what it takes to reach a goal such as this," said Payne.
Payne noted that the million safe hours were logged at Burlington Chemical between Oct. 1, 1995 and Nov. 30, 1999.
"This is our first time to win a million-hour award," said Kevin Dull, the company's director of health, safety and ISO Compliance.
Awards were also given to three employees who exhibited excellent safety and quality records for 1999.
