GE Lighting Named Green Lights Partner of the Year

EPA presented GE Lighting with the Ally of the Year Award for its efforts in energy efficiency and management.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in cooperation with the Department of Energy, presented GE Lighting with the Ally of the Year Award as part of EPA's Green Lights Partnership program.

Each year, this award is given to a company that has excelled in achieving the highest standard for energy-efficiency and has incorporated strategic energy management into its business plans.

"GE Lighting was selected as EPA's Green Lights Ally of the Year for recognizing the importance of developing, promoting and implementing energy-efficiency practices," said Paul Stolpman, EPA's Director-Office of Atmospheric Programs. "This company is a clear leader in the United States in demonstrating that strategic energy management not only contributes to a cleaner environment, it also improves the organization's bottom line."

As a Greeen Lights Partner, GE Lighting voluntarily surveyed more than 50 of its facilities, encompassing nearly 10 million square feet.

As a result of its extensive upgrades, the company anticipates an energy savings of about $1 million per year.

This effort represents one of the largest upgrade projects in the history of the Energy Star program.

"The Energy Star program has had a significant impact on our business and we're honored to be recognized with this prominent award," said Joseph Howley, GE Lighting's manager of environmental marketing.
