8 Ways To Stay Warm During Frigid Winter Weather [Photo Gallery]

Below-zero weather across the country already has claimed 11 lives, according to news reports.

The new year has brought record-breaking temperatures across the country, and news reports indicate the cold weather is here to stay.

So far, 11 people have died as a direct result of the winter weather, according to CNN. Because of this, organizations such as the Illinois chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) are providing tips to keep warm and stay safe.

"Illinois temperatures have reached extremely dangerous levels. It's critical that neighbors, friends and family check on older individuals to ensure make that they are warm and safe," said Bob Gallo, AARP Illinois state director in a statement. "Everyone should take precautions, particularly elderly individuals who are more at risk in extreme temperatures."
