15,000 Gather in Indianapolis for the National Safety Congress

More than 15,000 safety professionals are expected to “Race to Zero” at the National Safety Council’s Congress & Expo.

Racing to Zero – Safety that Works is the theme of this year’s National Safety Congress, held in Indianapolis Sept. 25-27. The event features more than 1,100 exhibitors, more than 125 educational seminars and five keynote sessions, giving attendees access to unparalleled resources to improve safety.             

“With workplace deaths at their highest level in nearly a decade, safety professionals look to best practices, innovative products and world-class education,” said Deborah A.P. Hersman, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. “The goal of the NSC Congress & Expo each year is to provide the tools and training to ensure organizations develop a culture of safety excellence.”

Keynotes for this year's event include Kyle Petty, NASCAR driver and business executive; Bonnie St. John, Paralympic ski medalist and former Rhodes Scholar; Laura Ambrose, global director of EH&S operations at The Dow Chemical Co.; Donald K. Martin, senior vice president of DEKRA/BST; Peter Waite, senior director of global health, safety and environment at Eli Lilly and Co.; Tim Page-Bottorff, senior safety consultant, and Larry Wilson, CEO, both of SafeStart; and Corey Pitzer, CEO of SAFEmap International.

The National Safety Cogress features more than 125 technical sessions. Some of the most highly anticipated topics include:  

  • Preventing bullying, harassment and violence.
  • Safety culture in a multigenerational workforce.
  • Pain medications in the workplace.
  • Best practices for a temporary workforce.

OSHA also will announce its annual list of the Top 10 most-cited violations for fiscal year 2017.

For the first time, NSC also is hosting an Auto Safety Tech Zone on the Expo floor with Ford, Toyota, FCA US and General Motors. All four car manufacturers will display vehicles equipped with cutting-edge safety technologies that are paving the way toward advanced driver systems.
