Fourteen workers died and dozens more were injured in a Feb. 7, 2008, explosion at the Imperial Sugar Co. refinery in Port Wentworth, Ga. Federal investigators blamed the explosion on a buildup of combustible sugar dust.
Every year since the tragedy, community members have gathered on Feb. 7 to pay their respects to the workers who lost their lives in the accident. WSAV 3 of Savannah, Ga., aired a piece on the memorial, and we thought we’d share it.
