The AFG program will distribute approximately $500 million in grants to career, combination and volunteer fire departments for equipment, training, communications, apparatus and other critical needs.
Interested applicants can submit separate applications for two program areas that award funds for activities or equipment. The Operations and Safety Program Area grants funds for personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, equipment and modifications to facilities. The Vehicle Acquisition Program Area grants apparatus to fire departments, including but not limited to pumpers, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, aerials, foam units and fireboats.
Applicants may also submit an additional application for a regional project designed to benefit multiple organizations serving more than one local jurisdiction.
The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) encourages eligible departments and organizations to apply for these funds.
“The IAFC continues to fight hard to obtain funding for this program, so fire departments can meet their basic needs,” said Chief Steven P. Westermann, IAFC president. “I urge our members to take advantage of this opportunity to apply for FIRE Act grants.”
Eligible applicants are limited to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service (EMS) organizations operating within the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, American Samoa and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
