What Motivates Employees? [Infographic]

If you want to motivate your employees, creating a fun work environment and plenty of opportunities for growth may be more successful than offering monetary rewards.

A new infographic takes a closer look at what motivates today’s employees and found some surprising results. Cash is apparently not always king – in fact, 71 percent of respondents said that the most meaningful recognition at work had no monetary value.

The infographic, released by Badgeville, reveals that a strong work environment and workplace culture is vital to employee motivation. Ninety percent of workers said they considered a “fun” work environment motivating; 83 percent said recognition for their contributions was more fulfilling than rewards and gifts; and 76 percent claimed opportunities for growth as the top reason for remaining with an organization.

“In every age demographic, opportunities for growth were more motivating as a reason to stay in an organization over pay increases,” the infographic states.
