CDC Guide Provides Information for Work-Related Travel

July 5, 2017
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released its biennial Yellow Book that includes tips and recommendations for international travel.

What shots should a worker receive before traveling to Costa Rica or Africa? What is the latest infectious disease threat?  What precautions should an employee take before leaving the country?

These questions can be answered in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest edition of the CDC Health Information for International Travel, also known as the Yellow Book.

The guide, published once every two years, is a detailed reference for health professionals providing care to international travelers and for anyone interested in staying healthy during international travel.

Pre-travel vaccine recommendations and destination-specific health advice as well as easy-to-reference maps, tables, and charts are included in the publication. The 2018 edition features the following updates:

  • The latest information about emerging infectious disease threats such as Zika, Ebola, and MERS
  • New cholera vaccine recommendations
  • Updated guidance on the use of antibiotics in the treatment of travelers' diarrhea
  • Special considerations for unique types of travel, such as wilderness expeditions, work-related travel, and study abroad
  • Destination-specific recommendations for popular itineraries, including new sections for travelers to Cuba and Burma

The CDC Health Information for International Travel is available on the agency’s web site.
