5 Steps to Eat Smart During National Nutrition Month

March 3, 2020
Portion control is key to eating smart.

When's the last time you looked at a nutrition facts label?

The 1990 Nutrition Labeling and Education Act (NLEA) required the breakdown of nutritional facts for most packaged foods in the United States.

Hidden artificial ingredients, added sugars and trans fat that could lurk in foods such as yogurts, snacks and juices are now shown as part of a 2,000 calorie diet mandated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

March is National Nutrition Month, and the American Heart Association (AHA) is providing tips about what to search for when considering your options at the grocery store. View the slideshow to learn how to eat smart according to the AHA.
