The scholarship will honor Dr. Morton Lippmann, a professor at New York University.

Lawrence and Ruth Birkner, longtime members of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and contributing editors of Occupational Hazards, have donated $100,000 to establish the Dr. Morton Lippmann Endowed Scholarship.

The scholarship will honor the New York University (NYU) professor who was an influential force in the industrial hygiene careers of Larry Birkner and his brother, Jeff. Lippmann continues to teach and to conduct world-renowned research in environmental and workplace aerosols.

"For over a quarter of a century, the profession has provided well for our family and for us, and we believe the turn of the century and millennium is a good time to make this gift to the profession," the Birkners wrote in their endowment letter to the American Industrial Hygiene (AIH) Foundation. Larry also is on Occupational Hazards' Editorial Advisory Board.

When the scholarship is fully endowed, it will provide for one $6,000 scholarship per year to an eligible student in the graduate program of Environmental Health Science at NYU.

"The $100,000 donation to the AIH Foundation by Ruth and Larry Birkner is an outstanding example of support of the profession now and in the future," foundation chairperson John Pendergrass said. "The foundation is greatly appreciative for the additional scholarships that students will enjoy for years to come."
