There were 35 applicants for this year's scholarships.
"Having an exceptional group of scholarship applicants made our selections particularly difficult this year," said John A. Pendergrass, CIH, CSP, PE, president of the foundation. "We look forward to future contributions by these talented students to the industrial hygiene profession."
The recipients are:
- Maria E. Gutierrez, University of Oklahoma, awarded the AIHA Endowed Scholarship.
- Scott C. Collingwood, University of Iowa, awarded the Clyde M. Berry Endowed Scholarship.
- Jessica L. Keplinger, University of Alabama, awarded the George & Florence Clayton Endowed Scholarship.
- William Agboruche, Wayne State University, awarded the Ford Minority Scholarship.
- Valerie D. Murray, University of Texas, awarded the Ford Minority Scholarship.
- Douglas O. Johns, University of Washington, awarded the Liberty Mutual Endowed Scholarship.
- Susan Shepherd, University of Massachusetts Lowell, awarded the Dr. Morton Lippmann Endowed Scholarship.
- Dang V. Nguyen, University of Michigan, awarded the TSI/Arthur J. Abrams Endowed Scholarship.
- University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, will announce the recipient of the Ralph G. Smith Endowed Scholarship this fall.
Scholarships are awarded to applicants who attend schools accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Recipients are judged on their abilities, a demonstration of strong ethics, a potential for leadership within the profession, academic performance, diversity and financial need. Seven of the scholarship recipients will receive $3,000 each and two will receive $6,000.
Scholarship recipients will be profiled in the fall issue of Foundation Focus, the newsletter of the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation.
Since its inception, the AIHF has awarded over $700,000 in scholarship monies to 44 different schools and universities to students studying industrial hygiene.
