Two debates between ASSE officials, including three former ASSE National Presidents Mark Hansen, Eddie Greer and Frank Perry all of Houston, Tex. on "Is Zero Incident Rate Achievable?" and "Is Behavior Based Safety Dead?" are scheduled.
"By asking the tough questions and reviewing new and innovative occupational safety, health and environmental programs to be presented at this conference, attendees will be able to return to their workplace with fresh ideas and additional resources," Region III Vice President Richard Bourlon, P.E., CSP, of Dallas, Tex., said.
On Monday morning, Aug. 2, Dr. James Walker will discuss the investigation of the Columbia Space Shuttle crash. That same day attendees are able to tour the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), a non-profit, applied research and development organization where its ballistics and explosives experts helped investigators determine the cause of the Space Shuttle Columbia loss.
The conference offers 39 concurrent sessions on how to improve occupational safety, health and environmental programs. Hazard communications, work zone safety, benchmarking best practices, emergency incident management, contract liability, root cause analysis, teaching the adult learner, ergonomic solutions, developing cross-generational cooperation, deductions a small business should not miss, safety and security post 9/11 and information technology as a safety and health tool are some of the sessions to be offered between 8:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2 through 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4.
OSHA Region 6 Administrator John Miles will be the Wednesday afternoon closing session speaker. Monday's keynote speaker Garrison Wynn will discuss "the truth about success."
In addition to the behind-the-scene tour of the Southwest Research Institute, attendees can also take a technical tour of Sea World.
Two post conference seminars, "When OSHA Calls - A Case Study" and "High Performance Leadership - Managing Time and Priorities" will be offered on Aug. 5. Conference information is available at www.asseregion3.org.
