Preparing for everything from terrorist attacks to leaks of toxic chemicals will be discussed at the Environmental Protection Agency's 1999 Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Conference, Sept. 20-23 at the Washington Hilton & Towers in Washington, D.C.
Featured speakers at the four-day conference, co-sponsored by the Chemical Manufacturers Association and the Department of the Army, will include FBI special agent Don Haldimann, who investigated TWA Flight 800 and the bombings of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City and the World Trade Center in New York, and Nick Vent of the San Diego Hazardous Materials Division. Vent has responded to more than 3,000 incidents, including the suicide of 39 members of the Heaven's Gate cult.
Panelists will explain case histories, present tabletop exercises and discuss topics such as crisis management, risk communications, chemical safety prevention, integrated contingency planning, air monitoring and roles of local police and fire departments.
