Safe Drinking Water Act Anniversary

A forum, held today, will recognize the anniversary of the act and look at ways to provide safe drinking water in the future.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act, the federal law ensuring the quality of America's drinking water.

According to EPA, the United States enjoys some of the safest drinking water in the world due to a strong regulatory and enforcement program implemented through partnerships formed by many public and private groups.

Representatives of these groups will help observe the anniversary at the Futures Forum today. The forum will discuss how the nation might address future challenges in providing drinking water over the next 25 years.

Issues to be addressed include drinking water costs, sources of drinking water, small water systems, and drinking water research.
