ASSE to Offer Safety Management Seminars

The American Society of Safety Engineers will hold Safety\r\nManagement seminars starting August 2001 until June 2002 in various\r\nU.S. locations.

The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) will hold Safety Management seminars starting August 2001 until June 2002 in various U.S. locations.

The Safety Management seminars provide additional education in the field of safety management and development towards certification.

Lower fees are offered for ASSE and AIHA members, and for both ASSE members and non-members registered before the early registration deadline.

The Certificate in Safety Management represents the pursuit of additional learning and further understanding in the safety profession, as recommended by ASSE.

This certificate is awarded by ASSE and approved by the international Association for Continuing Education and Training.

The Certificate in Safety Management is awarded after completing the three ASSE-required courses in safety management as well as taking additional elective courses to earn a total of 7.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Electives are any ASSE seminars, Pre- and Post-Professional Development Conference (PDC) seminars or symposia other than the PDC. The three required courses are:

Safety Management Part I: Fundamental Concepts

This seminar taught by James Kendrick, CSP, of Bell Helicopter from Fort Worth, Texas and Joel Tietjens, CSP, of T-Jens and T-Jens Inc. from Spring, Texas, explains fundamental elements and ideas for the implementation of actions that lead to an effective safety program. Through examples, case studies and sample forms, a framework for an effective program is built. This seminar explains several aspects of safety management including the implementation of strategies, understanding effective elements of programs, ways to establish accountability for safety efforts as well as much more.

Safety Management Part II: Program Management and Evaluation

This seminar, also taught by Kendrick and Tietjens, provides in-depth views of effective safety management programs by comparing case studies in regards to measurement techniques and implementation. Ethics, safe behavior reinforcement and safety auditing are just some of the topics covered. The seminar may be taken as a continuation of Safety Management Part I or as a stand-alone seminar.

Corporate Safety Management

This seminar taught by Dale Gray, PE, of Gray Executive Services Inc. from Sanibel, Fla., is aimed at the skilled safety professional who is facing the challenges of management responsibility in the corporate world. The seminar explains developing techniques to negotiate in the business world, adjusting to corporate mergers and downsizing, benchmarking an organization''s safety and health process and obtaining management and non-management buy-in of the safety responsibility.
