Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Rob Reiner, former EPA Administrator Carol Browner and New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer joined national environmental groups at a rally to blast the Bush administration's environmental record.
"The Bush administration has the worst environmental record of any administration," said Carol Browner, former EPA administrator and a board member of Environment2004. "These polluter-friendly policies come at the expense of our health, our neighborhood communities and our most treasured natural resources."
Spitzer claimed the Bush administration is dismantling environmental laws it was charged to uphold. "New York and other states are taking action, but our efforts can't reverse the trend. It is imperative to have a president who will establish new, forward-looking national energy and environmental policies."
The group plans to reach out to over 3 million households in nine states using door-to-door canvassing, phone calls and e-mails. The groups plan to target Florida, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wisconsin.
"The environmental community is embarking on an unprecedented voter mobilization and public education effort this year," said Carl Pope, executive director of the Sierra Club. "We are talking to millions of people, multiple times, at their doorsteps, on the phone, and through environmentally friendly e-mail to get them the facts about the Bush administration's dismal environmental record."
