Contractors whose employees are exposed to lead and silica dust will get a little bit of help protecting their workers tomorrow. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is co-sponsoring an outreach seminar in Dothan, Ala., that will address OSHA regulations and employer liabilities, exposure prevention methods, medical and exposure recordkeeping regulations and employee access rights.
Interested contractors are invited to attend the seminar, which will last an hour and begins at 2:00 p.m. at the Houston County Health Department, 1781 Cottonwood Rd. in Dothan.
Employees can be exposed to silica if they lay brick or block; chip, hammer or drill rock or concrete; mix concrete or mortar; dry sweep or blow down dusty areas; haul, dump or load rock, sand or dirt or are exposed to road dust.
Those wishing to attend should pre-register for the free seminar by calling the Dothan Associated General Contractors of America office at 334-832-4001.
In addition to OSHA, seminar co-sponsors include SafeState, the Mobile-Pensacola Building Trades Council, United Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, the Alabama/Georgia Joint Apprentice Training Fund, Alabama Branch - Associated General Contractors of America, Mobile County Road Builders Association, Inc., Alabama Road Builders Association Inc. and the American Lung Association.
