OSHA Semifinalist for Innovation Award

The agency's software on regulation assistance garners attention\r\nas original and effective initiative.

The Occupational Safety and Health Admnistration''s (OSHA) Expert Advisers have earned the agency semifinalist standing in the Innovations in American Government Awards, which recognize original and effective government initiatives.

The advisers are a suite of expert computer software that enable businesses to answer simple questions and receive reliable answers on how volumes of government regulations apply to their unique workplaces. The advisers are available at no cost on OSHA''s Web site, www.osha.gov.

OSHA is one of 21 federal organizations included among 96 semifinalists. Semifinalists were drawn from a field of more than 1,300 applications submitted by cabinet members, governors, mayors and county executives. Ten winners, to be announced in October, will each receive an award of $100,000 to help replicate their innovative programs.

The Innovations in American Government Awards are sponsored by the Ford Foundation and administered by Harvard University''s John F. Kennedy School of Government in partnership with the Council for Excellence in Government.
