Washington, D.C. Ergonomics Hearing Begins Today

The first of four informal public hearings scheduled on OSHA's proposed ergonmics standard will begin today in Washington, D.C.

The first of four informal public hearings scheduled on OSHA's proposed ergonomics standard will begin today in Washington, D.C.

The hearing will start by OSHA Administrator Charles N. Jeffress welcoming participants at 9:30 a.m.

The hearing will be take place in the auditorium of the Frances Perkins Building at 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.

This hearing will continue in Washington through April 7, beginning at 8:30 a.m. daily.

Approximately 1,100 individuals are signed up to testify over the next nine weeks in Washington, Chicago or Portland, Ore.

The hearings were set up to allow groups, associations, companies and individuals concerned with the proposed standard and its various requirements to present their comments to OSHA in a public forum.

OSHA received nearly 7,000 comments on the proposal during the 100-day public comment period that closed March 2.

The proposed OSHA ergonomics standard would cover 27 million workers and prevent an average of 300,000 injuries each year, saving the U.S. economy $9 billion annually, according to OSHA.
