The results of a stress assessment survey of 7,200 people found that the overwhelming majority "can''t relax and they "overreact" which results in physical symptoms of fatigue, tiredness, low energy and tension.

The 154-point, self-administered Stress Less Stress Assessment is provided free online by Stress Less, a company providing stress information and stress reduction products and programs.

The questionnaire covers the following areas: work changes and pressures, personal and home life, physical symptoms of stress, mental symptoms, emotional symptoms, personal behavioral signs, work behavior and stress coping skills and personal resources.

"Clearly, the survey underscores the need for people to learn relaxation techniques; change their negative habits; incorporate better management at work, and exercise to avoid the health consequences," said Al Kitchen, founder of the company.

Since work stress accounts for nearly half of all stress problems, the two main issues cited in the work changes and pressure area of the study are "too many responsibilities" and "demanding and unreasonable deadlines," which results in trying to please others, wasting time and overwork.

The survey respondents indicated that their emotional symptoms are lead by "frustration and "anger."

The respondents also felt the major issues in their personal and home life were "not enough money" and "conflicts with mates and other family members."

The survey revealed that the major areas that need improving in the stress coping skills area are learning to relax and physical exercise.

After a person completes the assessment, they are given an immediate summary of the results and implications. If they wish, they can receive a comprehensive, personalized stress program. The Stress Assessment is available at www.stressless.com.
