The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work launched a new joint Web site on occupational safety and health.

The Canada site has joined the agency''s network of 15 European Union (EU) member state Web sites on occupational safety and health making the joint Web site one of the world''s most extensive global portals on occupational safety and health.

The joint site follows the structure and presentation of the European Agency''s Web site network interface.

It provides key OSH information on issues such as good practice, research, statistics and legislation and regulations.

The EU-Canadian Web site can be accessed at www.eu-ccohs.org.

As well as linking directly to EU information, the Canadian Web site provides information and links to occupational safety and health information from Canadian government agencies both at the Federal level and in the different provinces and territories.

"Both Canada and its EU counterpart have assembled a wealth of information on successful strategies to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses," said Len Hong, president of CCOHS. "We''re pleased to have a vehicle for sharing information with each other and with the workers and employers we serve."

The Director of the European Agency, Hans-Horst Konkolewsky, said, "The launch of the Canadian Web site adds a significant dimension to the agency''s network. It allows businesses, workers and experts alike to be better informed about regulatory demands, OSH-systems and best practices in Canada and in the EU and thus to meet the challenges of globalization."
