Citizens, Groups Honored for Addressing Global Warming

Thirty-two individuals and organizations from around the world\r\nreceived awards from EPA Tuesday for reducing the health and environmental risks of global warming.

Thirty-two individuals and organizations from around the world received awards from EPA Tuesday in Washington, D.C., for helping to reduce the health and environmental risks of global warming and stratospheric ozone depletion.

Global warming is climate change and stratospheric ozone layer protects us from skin danger and the sun''s ultraviolet radiation.

"EPA is proud to recognize the accomplishments and leadership of those who made protection of the earth''s atmosphere a top priority," said Bob Perciasepe, EPA assistant administrator for Air and Radiation. "The winners of this year''s Climate and Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award are taking significant steps to reduce the pollutants that cause global warming and deplete the earth''s protective ozone layer. It is our hope that their commitment and contributions will inspire other individuals and organizations to make a difference in protecting the environment."

Since 1990, EPA has given out 417 Climate and Stratospheric Ozone Protection Awards.

This year, there are 19 winners of the Climate Protection Awards, and 13 winners of the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award.

The winners included corporations such as AT&T, Intel Corp., Visteon Corp. and United Technologies/International Fuel Cells.
