Workers Injured in Ontario Chrysler Plant Explosion

Five workers were injured Sunday when an explosion rocked an\r\nautomotive plant in Brampton, Ontario, a city northwest of\r\nToronto.

Five workers were injured Sunday when an explosion rocked an automotive plant in Brampton, Ontario, a city northwest of Toronto.

The blast occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the paint shop of the Chrysler Bramalea assembly plant east of a major residential section of the city, said fire and police officials.

Fire officials said that of the five people injured, none of the injuries were serious.

Toxic fumes and massive flames broke out following the explosion, as firefighters fought the blaze for two hours.

Although the plant was on a two-week shutdown, hundreds of people were inside, including employees, construction worker and security personnel.

The Fire Prevention Office is investigating to determine the cause of the explosion and the extent of the damage.

The plant, which opened in 1987, produces the Intrepid, Concorde, 300M and other car models.
