Gov. Mark Schweiker congratulated 40 Pennsylvania companies and organizations for their outstanding achievements in environmental protection at this year's ceremony celebrating the Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence on Dec. 19.
The winners are from 32 counties: Adams, Allegheny, Armstrong, Blair, Beaver, Berks, Bucks, Cameron, Centre, Chester, Clarion, Dauphin, Delaware, Elk, Erie, Franklin, Fulton, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lawrence, Lebanon, Lehigh, McKean, Monroe, Montgomery, Northumberland, Philadelphia, Snyder, Venango, Washington, Westmoreland and York.
Together, this year's winners have eliminated 5,728 tons of air pollutants; reduced solid waste disposal by 230,668 tons; conserved 55.7 million gallons of water; and reduced energy consumption by 5.4 million kilowatt-hours - all while saving $17.6 million annually.
