Author Eric Lutzo is the founder of Forward Thought, a coaching and leadership development practice. The first column, "Small Changes Have Great Impact," discusses the importance of those first small steps we must take if big changes are to occur in our lives or organizations.

Lutzo's professional focus is on coaching, team building and leadership development. "Coaching today is becoming a critical element for many organizations to improve corporate performance both financially and emotionally. A coach helps senior managers focus on their unique strengths, build strong efficient teams and improve performance," says Lutzo.

He adds that coaching also helps managers understand the benefits and talents of their colleagues and staff. This critical step in coaching is called awareness building. Awareness by creating a type of map, which allows the manager to outline goals (both personal and professional), work on style issues and see measurable results faster.

"Coaching can help a team develop a learning map, stay on task and manage conflict. This investment in team development helps retain key employees, creates a fair and constructive work environment and develops the future leaders of the organization," Lutzo notes.

Future Forward Thought articles will discuss the impact change has on managers and organizations, the importance of team building and advice on getting your message across to other members of your organization.
