Ergonomics has always been a major concern at any industrial location; however, the growing population of workers at large distribution centers to meet expanding e-commerce demands has put a larger spotlight on the issue.

In fact, in 2025, OSHA reached a settlement with Amazon, which required the company to develop a corporate-wide program to help better protect employees from hazardous working conditions, leading to serious lower back and other musculoskeletal disorders.

So EHS Today checked in with Kristianne Egbert, senior corporate ergonomist with Briotix Health, to see how the field is changing.

She is excited about the recent improvements in her field, citing specifically the video capture availability, which allows companies to better understand the ergonomic risks and therefore make improvements. “Being able to help frontline employees visualize what the problem is and involve them in creating solutions makes it more likely for these solutions to stick," she observes.
