AIHA Member Presents Value Strategy at OSHI Conference

Feb. 10, 2011
On Feb. 17, Bernie Silverstein, CIH, will present the AIHA Value Strategy at the 20th Annual Occupational Hygiene Society of Ireland (OSHI) conference in Galway, Ireland. Silverstein has been honored with presenting the annual Tom O’Connor Lecture, which will demonstrate the value of health and safety interventions.

The lecture, titled “Hygiene: The Value Strategy,” will highlight the AIHA Value Strategy as a comprehensive process in which occupational hygienists align risk management with business objectives while promoting stakeholder values.

Silverstein, an independent consultant with over 30 years of experience working for both government and private industry specializing in risk assessment and H&S management systems, is a member of the AIHA Exposure Assessment Strategies Committee and chairman of the AIHA Value Strategy Committee.

He is the principle author and editor of The AIHA Value Strategy Manual, which details the importance of health and safety program implementation despite limited resources in the current economic environment. The study enabled IH professionals to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the business value of IH activities and programs.

Findings include demonstrated IH business value and a resulting strategy that industrial hygienists can use to present value in terms that resonate with business leaders.
