Bala Siva Srikanth Adivi Enhances Safety Profession Abroad

TPL specialist is named ASSP's 2020 Safety Professional of the Year.

Innovative. Passionate. Determined. 

These are the adjectives peers use to describe Bala Siva Srikanth Adivi, CSP, CFIOSH who was recently named the 2020 Safety Professional of the Year by the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).

Adivi is an occupational health, safety and environment expert at the Kuwait Oil Company. He was nominated for his "visionary leadership"  as a TPL specialist.

ASSP President Diana Stegall lauded his efforts, saying, “Bala has earned this significant honor with his passion and daily commitment to safety and health. He is known for being a self-motivated, high-performing leader who remains down-to-earth and personable. He’s a great example of what ASSP represents.”

Adivi has been a safety professional for more than two decades. During that time, he has  numerous operational enhancements that have led to measurable improvements in workplace safety.

ASSP cited his initiative to implement safety and environment management system standards such as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and his innovative work on corporate-level task forces and various safety initiatives as examples of his leadership abilities. Adivi also played a key role in the Kuwait Oil Company winning ASSP's safety innovation award in 2014.

In addition, Adivi has been a highly active member of ASSP for 12 years. He currently serves as the administrator of the International Practice Specialty. In 2017, he was the architect behind the first mobile app for the ASSP Kuwait Chapter’s Professional Development Conference and Exposition.

“His upbeat personality and energetic style make him a great safety colleague,” said Ashok Garlapati, CSP, CFIOSH, QEP, a health, safety and environment consultant (D&TS) for the Kuwait Oil Company. “He maintains the highest standards of quality while exploring and understanding the best avenues for project implementation.”

Adivi's educational achievements include a master's degree in ecology and environment and a bachelor’s degree in fire engineering. He also earned an advanced diploma in industrial safety. He has authored many technical papers on key safety topics and has presented his findings at international conferences.
