Veterans Day: New Campaign Honors, Thanks Veterans

Nov. 11, 2010
In honor of Veterans Day and as part of its new “Thank You for Your Service” campaign, the Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation (PenFed Foundation) encourages Americans worldwide to show their appreciation for the military personnel and veterans in their lives by sending a simple thank you message.

“As with many holidays, Veterans Day can be somewhat abstract to many Americans, but we hope this initiative will personalize the holiday so that [it is] meaningful to everyone,” said Kate Kohler, chief operating officer for the PenFed Foundation and who served as a U.S. Army captain. “The campaign has a simple message: Stop and say thank you to a veteran in your life.”

PenFed offers five ways you can thank your family, friends and neighbors who have served:

• Send them an email.
• Thank them in person.
• Post a message on their Facebook page.
• Send them a tweet and use the hashtag #thankyouforyourservice.
• Mail them a card.

Remember to use these five simple words: “Thank you for your service.”

“I think a lot of veterans will be surprised to receive gratitude for their service and sacrifice on our nation’s behalf,” adds Kohler. “Taking the time to say these five simple words will go a long way to make sure they know you remember them.”

The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation (PenFed Foundation) is a nationally recognized, nonprofit organization working to meet the unmet needs of military personnel and their families.
