CSB to Hold Public Meeting to Discuss Combustible Dust Hazard Study

Oct. 20, 2006
The Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) will hold a public meeting Nov. 9 to discuss the findings and recommendations made in its draft report on combustible dust fires and explosions in the United States.

The agency says it may vote on approval of the report and recommendations during the meeting and also will allow the public to comment on the issue.

In 2003, CSB launched investigations into three combustible dust explosions in Kinston, N.C.; Corbin, Ky.; and Huntington, Ind. A total of 14 people were killed and 81 injured in these three accidents. The final reports are available on its Web site.

In 2004, the agency launched the hazard study of the causes and effects of combustible dust fires and explosions.

The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 9 in the Diplomat/Consulate room of the Embassy Suites Downtown Washington, 1250 22nd Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.

Pre-registration is not required, but to assure adequate seating, CSB is encouraging attendees to pre-register by e-mailing their names and affiliations to [email protected] by Nov. 2.
